Ease Anxiety

According to Acupuncturist, herbalist, yogini Dana Schwartz anxiety is a signal, truly a gift, which brings us the awareness that something is out of balance.

Bet you never thought those anxiety attacks were ‘gifts!’

I certainly Β can tell you that I did not. What I can tell you is that after meditating on this exact point, I’ve been able to understand how I can now easily deal with anxiety waves. Somewhere within my studies and self inquiry I made this connection, not quite using the word gift, but an opportunity to address behaviours, environments and even relationships that needed to be looked at in a deeper way.

Now, using the word gift, softens the whole perspective. It allows me to step out of the wanting to get rid of mentality and teaches me to be still within my own being. I’ve learned to be with anxiety, and gradually break it down in a gentle manner.

Oh, I still get pangs of thick emotion in my belly. I still get those waves that knock me over, but I no longer feel ruled by them. I know that it’s my choice to see these times as invitations to engage with myself in new ways.

This little video is just the beginning. I’ll be adding more anxiety easing tips along the way πŸ™‚

This video and tip was inspired by this guest post from Dana Schwartz over at my friend Hillary Rubin’s blog. Hillary has a wealth of insight on her site. You should check it out πŸ™‚

hi, i just came across your blog when doing some research to find a yoga podcast to take with me on my ipod on a boat that i just started living on, 3 weeks ago. It has been really extremely helpful for me to have, i have been doing lots of your classes, mostly practicing on the dock (challenging my balance!) I have been healing an injured disk in my back for a while that has been causing sciatic nerve pain and am grateful to have your yoga classes to follow, i enjoy anusara and find you to be an exceptional teacher, kind and skilled. so thank you. do you have any classes for back pain on your blog? if you do please let me know! Ive been practicing yoga for years and until i decided to live on a boat for a while i was teaching Acrobatic Yoga in minnnesota for the past 3 years…Im glad you keep this blog it is so so helpful to me! thanks!

Hi Alyssa! So fantastic to hear from you πŸ™‚ Especially how you are practicing on a boat. So awesome, love it β™₯ At this moment I do not have anything specific for back pain but I have a feeling I’ll be creating something very soon as 3 weeks ago I hurt my sacrum/si joint really bad and was in a TON of pain. I’m wanting to share what I learned about pain, my body, yoga and how to cope πŸ˜‰ We’ll see!

I’ve always wanted to do Acrobatic yoga, it sounds like soooooo much fun!!!!
